Nov. 12, 2009: Lecture honors Professor Harvard Sitkoff
Return to News & Events Calendar
The Department of History invites the UNH Community to a lecture and reception on Thursday, November 12, in honor of Professor Harvard Sitkoff, who retired this year after a career of more than 30 years at UNH. Professor Sitkoff has been a popular teacher and prolific author. His classes on recent U.S. history and the Vietnam War regularly filled to capacity, and his Ph.D. students have gone on to publish important work and teach in colleges in the U.S. and the U.K. Among his books on the history of the Civil Rights Movement is the recent biography, King: Pilgrimage to the Mountaintop.
The celebration will take place at the Alumni Center at 4:00 p.m. William H. Chafe of Duke University will give a lecture, “From Jim Crow to Civil Rights: The Continuity of Struggle”. The lecture will be followed by a reception. Both are free and open to the public. We hope you can join us on Thursday, November 12, and help us wish Harvard the best in this next phase of his career.
