VPN Installation & Configuration Instructions

VPN (Virtual Private Network) is technology that allows an off-campus student the ability to authenticate to the UNH Network. Once logged in, students can download UNH-licensed software, such as McAfee Virusscan or UNH Academic Software Applications. Follow the instructions below to download, install and login to the student VPN!

Downloading and Installing the VPN Software

  1. Right-click on Download VPN Client and select 'Save Target As' to save the file studentclient.exe to your desktop.

  2. Double-click on the unh-pub-nec.exe install file on your desktop

  3. Click 'Run' to begin the installation.

  4. When the installation is complete, restart your computer

Logging Into VPN

  1. Once the VPN software is installed on your computer, click on your Start Menu » All Programs » Nortel Networks » Contivity VPN Client to open the VPN client.

  2. The VPN login screen will appear with the 01-Public VPN as the default connection. If you are connecting via a wireless location on-campus, select the 10-Student Wireless LAN connection and continue to step 3.

If you are connecting via a LAN (wired connection), select the 09-Student Public connection from the drop-down menu.

  3. Enter your MyUNH username and password and click Connect. If you are prompted to save the current connection settings, select yes to save your username and connection setting. Selecting yes will not save your password!

  4. Once the VPN is connected successfully, you will notice a Contivity VPN Client Monitor appear in your task bar at the bottom-right corner of your screen.

You may double-click on the task bar icon to display the Contivity VPN Client Monitor. This screen displays the connection information of the VPN and ensures you are sending and receiving data correctly.

  5. Your computer is now connected to the VPN and successfully identified on the UNH network! You may now proceed to download virus protection software at http://www.virus.unh.edu.

  6. Please be sure to disconnect the VPN client when you are finished downloading software. To disconnect, right-click on the VPN task bar icon and select Disconnect Contivity VPN and select yes to confirm.
