Clearing Temporary Internet Files & Cache
Cache is a high-speed storage mechanism, in either a section of the main memory or an independent
high-speed storage device. This storage is usually cleared each time a computer reboots, but in some cases
it may be retained. Symptoms of your cache being retained would include seeing old web pages or not being
able to login to certain sites.
Below are instructions for clearing your browser's cache, history and temporary internet files.

Clearing Cookies, Cache and History (WIN OS; v 6.0+) |
- In Internet Explorer, select the Tools menu and Internet Options
- Select the General tab
- In the center of the dialog box under the 'Temporary Internet Files' header, you should see three (3)
buttons: Delete Cookies, Delete Files and Settings.
- Select 'Delete Cookies' and select 'OK' to confirm
- Select 'Delete Files', check the box labeled 'Delete all offline content' and click 'OK' to confirm
- Select the 'Clear History' button at the bottom-right of the dialog box and select 'Yes' to confirm
Once those steps are complete, be sure to restart Internet Explorer before attempting to visit a web address.

Clearing Cookies, Cache and History (MAC OS; v 5.2.3+) |
- Go to the Explorer Menu.
- Choose Preferences.
- In the Preferences window, Choose Advanced under Web Browser.
- Click Empty Now button located under Cache.
- Scroll down and select Cookies located under Receiving Files.
- Select all Cookies shown in the window and click the Delete button.
- Click OK.
Once those steps are complete, be sure to restart Internet Explorer before attempting to visit a web address.

Resetting Internet Explorer Security Settings |
- In Internet Explorer, select the Tools menu and Internet Options
- Select the 'Advanced' tab and select the bottom-right button labeled 'Restore Defaults'. This will reset
the general browsing settings for Internet Explorer for all sites visited
- Select the 'Privacy' tab
- Within the 'Privacy' dialog box, you will see a slider-bar on the left side of the box. Click and drag that
slider bar to 'Low' (one notch above the lowest setting)
- Select the 'Security' tab
- Select the 'Custom Level' button at the bottom center of the dialog box
- At the bottom of the dialog box that appears, select 'Medium-Low' from the drop-down menu and select
the 'Reset' button and the 'Yes' button to confirm
- Select the 'Apply' button and then the 'OK' button to exit out of the Internet Options window.
Once those steps are complete, be sure to restart Internet Explorer before attempting to visit a web address.

- In Firefox, select the Tools menu and Options
- Select the 'Privacy' icon in the left-side menu
- In the bottom-right corner of the dialog box, select the 'Clear All' button and select 'Clear All Information' to confirm
Once those steps are complete, be sure to restart Firefox before attempting to visit a web address.

- In Firefox, select the Firefox menu next to the Apple icon
- Select Preferences
- Select the 'Privacy' tab next to the 'General' tab
- In the bottom-right corner of the dialog box, select the 'Clear Cache Now' button
Once those steps are complete, be sure to restart Firefox before attempting to visit a web address.

Resetting Mozilla Firefox Security Settings |
- In Firefox, select the Tools menu and Options
- Select the 'Web Features' icon in the left-side menu
- Ensure the 'Enable Java' and 'Enable Javascript' checkboxes are checked
Once those steps are complete, be sure to restart Firefox before attempting to visit a web address.

- Select Edit and select Preferences on the Netscape menu bar
- Click 'Advanced'
- Click 'Cache'
- Select the 'Clear Memory Cache' button
- Select the 'Clear Disk Cache' button
- Select 'OK' to confirm

- Open Safari
- Select 'Empty Cache'
- Click 'Empty' to confirm
Once those steps are complete, be sure to restart Safari before attempting to visit a web address.
