What does health mean to you?:For us, health means eating whole, local foods as much as possible, getting outside with our dogs, and being active!
What do you do to make a Healthy UNH?:We try to take advantage of all of the amazing recreation and healthy food resources available to us! Mendoms Pond is the perfect spot for an after-work swim, Adams Point is a beautiful retreat to walk our dogs, and the Dairy Bar offers a ton of great options for local, organic lunch fare.
How do you stay fit?:We love to run, and Kingman Farm provides the perfect outdoor venue. The trails are hard packed and beautifully maintained. Onsite parking and a number of different loops make it easy to accommodate what kind of running mood we are in each day!
Do you have any tips for eating healthfully?:
With the help of the Organic Garden Club, we have started our own vegetable garden this year! Knowing where your food comes from is a BIG part of healthy living for us. Being responsible for growing our own food is a tough change, but the rewards are well worth it when you harvest your own meal. The Organic Garden Club sells a variety of fruits and veggies throughout the summer and even offers an office delivery service for just $1! How much easier can it get? We also try to limit the amount we eat out, and most importantly we always let ourselves splurge on the occasional ice cream or other treat. It’s necessary to maintain a balance.
How do you find motivation to stay healthy?:We both find that when we are eating better and staying active we are just happier people. And being happy is a pretty great motivator!
Have you made any tangible improvements to your physical or mental well-being by making positive changes in your life?:We both feel like happier and healthier versions of ourselves. We have more stamina to run, work out, and enjoy all of the beautiful outdoor spots around us!
Anything else you would like to add?:
There is no such thing as “perfect” health. It’s a balance, and by taking each day one at a time, you find better success. Health is not a destination it’s a journey!
