What does health mean to you?:Feeling good on a daily basis. No aches or pains.
What do you do to make a Healthy UNH?:UNH Dining is committed to helping the University be healthy by being very supportive of the Healthy UNH initiative. We have an excellent Dietitian on staff, Rochelle L’Italien. She has been very active on campus and in working with students, faculty and staff. She is always available for a session to get you on the right track.
How do you stay fit?:Joined a health club. 30 minutes of cardio at least 4-5 times per week. Lift weights 2 times per week. Walk. Eat healthy.
Do you have any tips for eating healthfully?:
Watch portions. Fill your plate with fruits and vegetables. Lean protein. Drink lots of water. Treat yourself once in a while to something bad. I love using the new Wildcat plate to keep me in line.
How do you find motivation to stay healthy?:I lost my dad to cancer. I want to be around to see my future grandchildren grow up. Something he did not get to do.
Have you made any tangible improvements to your physical or mental well-being by making positive changes in your life?:The exercising and healthy eating has contributed to loss of weight. I know this is a positive step for me. I use a device called Jawbone to monitor my steps during the day and it tracks how I sleep. It’s a motivator to walk. I have started walking all 18 holes at the golf course. It’s incredible how many steps I take. I guess that is reflective of my game.
Anything else you would like to add?:
Eating healthy has turned me on to many new foods-Brussels sprouts, low fat yogurt, seafood, spinach, beets.
