Don’t have enough time in the morning to have a full blown sit-down breakfast? Lots of us don’t, it’s hard to get out the door every morning and to campus on time. There are lots of recipes out there that are quick and healthy to keep you going throughout the day. If you ever heard breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you have heard right. Research has been shown that people who eat a nutritious breakfast in the morning, are healthier than people that don’t eat breakfast in the morning. This is because breakfast provides your body with the energy and nutrients that it needs to satisfy hunger levels throughout the day. People that skip breakfast usually are hungrier when lunch time approaches and tend to consume more food/calories. Skipping breakfast may also prevent you from reaching all of your daily requirements for vitamins and minerals.
Here are some quick breakfast ideas that will provide you with the nutrients you need to avoid that mid-morning slump and give you energy for those hectic morning activities!
- Peanut butter and banana sandwich on whole wheat bread
- Oatmeal with fat-free or low-fat milk with ¼ cup of unsweetened applesauce and sprinkle of cinnamon
- Greek yogurt parfait topped with fruits and nuts
- Quick and easy breakfast burrito. Eggs, cheese, veggies, salsa, all wrapped up in a whole wheat tortilla.
