Preventative Care Pays Off

Interested in having a more proactive role in your healthcare? Using preventative care services can decrease the risk of chronic disease while simultaneously reducing healthcare costs. Preventing disease is key to improving America’s health and keeping rising health costs under control. Most health plans must cover a set of preventive health services for children at no cost when delivered by an in-network provider. Many chronic diseases can be largely preventable through close partnership with your healthcare team, or can be detected through appropriate screenings, when treatment works best. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) makes preventative care more affordable and accessible by requiring certain private health insurance companies to cover recommended preventative services without shared cost

Benefits eligible USNH employees have direct access to preventative care screenings through their health benefits plan! The Human Resources department at UNH has developed a preventative health program called MyPathtoWellness designed to improve employee health while lowering overall costs. Part one of the program consisted of biometric screenings to assess individual BMI, glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure. Part two involves a simple health questionnaire which is currently accessible through the UNH website!  By completing both step one and two, by November 7th you can save up to $400 on your health insurance premium beginning January 1st.

Being more proactive in your healthcare will not only have a significant impact on your health but the associated costs. Preventing disease before it starts is critical to helping people live longer, healthier lives and keeping health care costs down. Start your path to wellness here and take the Health Questionnaire online before November 7th!
