Sustainability Academy

Organic Garden Club

The UNH Organic Garden Club (OGC) is a student-run organization established in 2003. OGC is part of the Food & Society Initiative of the UNH Sustainability Academy, which seeks to create a sustainable food system at UNH and to integrate issues of sustainable food and agriculture into the curriculum, operations, research, and engagement efforts at the University. OGC maintains a two-acre farm on the Campus-Community Farm, a 30-acre USDA certified organic site.

UNH Slow Food

Slow Food at the University of New Hampshire is a collective effort to educate students, faculty, and the local Durham community about the production, consumption, and enjoyment of foods that are Good to the senses, Clean for the environment, and sold through Fair practices that support local economies.

UNH Sustainability Stewards are faculty and staff working together to bring sustainability – a core part of UNH’s identity and mission – to the grassroots level in their buildings and departments.

Sustainable Transportation at UNH

The University Office of Sustainability offers many transportation initiatives such as; Wildcat Transit, Cat Cycles, Eco-Cat alternative fuel vehicles, GoLoco ridesharing, and promotion of sustainable transportation options. These initiatives are working to maximize mobility and accessibility in a climate protection framework that emphasizes health and safety, efficiency, cost effectiveness, equity, accessibility, and sustainability. Programs are available for faculty, staff, adjunct employees, students and community members. 

NH Farm to School Program

NH Farm to School (NHFTS) is a statewide program working to connect NH farms and schools. Farm to school connections enable schools to serve healthy, locally grown foods in their cafeterias, integrate farms, food, and nutrition into their curriculum, and explore food and agriculture-based learning opportunities.

Local Harvest Initiative

The Local Harvest Initiative is a growing partnership of UNH Dining, University Office of Sustainability, and local producers. Through the Local Harvest Initiative, UNH Dining is committed to serving locally, regionally, and sustainably grown, produced, and manufactured items to the greatest extent possible.

Food Solutions New England

Food Solutions New England (FSNE) is a UNH-based initiative designed to promote food systems that support sustainable farm and food enterprises and sound nutrition in New England communities. FSNE promotes comprehensive, systemic approaches linking farm, food, nutrition, and social justice issues using analysis and visualization to help improve the integrity and viability of the regional food system.
