American Red Cross Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor Courses

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course is to teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare participants to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drowning and injuries. This course includes First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer-Lifeguard, and AED. Available for a fee.

Open Skate, Stick, and Puck

Campus Recreation offers Open Skate, Stick, and Puck at the Whittemore Center Arena. Skate rentals are $3.00 and can be acquired in the equipment room on the ground floor of the recreation center. All stick and puck skaters must wear protective gear.

Outdoor Pool

The outdoor pool is a seasonal facility. Several passes and punch cards are available for purchase. A full list of pool rates can be found on the website.

Swasey Indoor Pool

The Swasey Indoor Pool is located in the Field House. Membership is free to full time students and benefited faculty/staff. Community members, part-time students and drop in guests must pay a fee.

Recreational activities within College Woods include hiking, walking, skiing, jogging, and bike trails.

Indoor Badminton Court

Hamel Recreation Center's third floor offers courts that can be used as badminton courts. The courts are available for use by Hamel Rec members and can be reserved by calling 862-3666

Multipurpose Activity Court

Hamel Recreation Center's bottom floor offers two multi-purpose courts with aerobics, dance, martial arts, fencing and other activities. The courts are available for use unless they are reserved for another acitivity. equipment is available for rent for free from the equipment room on the ground floor of the recreation center.

Indoor Volleyball Courts

Students and members who wish to play volleyball may come and use volleyball equipment. Patrons will put up and take down volleyball nets with help upon request. Three sets of volley ball nets and posts are located on the third floor of the building and are available for use any time that the building is open, unless the courts are occupied.

Indoor Track

The three lane suspended indoor track is located on the first floor of the Hamel Recreation Center.  It is approximately 12 laps to the mile. Along the track there are also exercise bikes for more cardio of a cardio workout without going downstairs to the fitness center.

Community Sailing

The Community Sailing Program offered at Mendums Pond teaches people of all skills and age levels how to sail. It is offered in the spring, summer and fall and is open to the public. Prices vary per course and participation and UNH Faculty and Staff receive a 10% discount.
