Mendums Pond

The Outdoor Recreation Area is a beautiful 200-acre site just nine miles from Durham. The pond is located on the Little River, a tributary of the Lamprey River and part of the larger Piscataqua River watershed. The Area is perfect for boating and picnicking. Two picnic pavilions are provided and canoes and paddle boats are available for rent. Swimming is permitted, however, there are no lifeguards on duty.

Bouldering Wall

The UNH Bouldering wall is a 260 square foot climbing structure located in the Hamel Recreation Center. It was built in 2005 thanks to the generous support of the UNH Parents Association. Students and members of Hamel Recreation Center are welcome to use the wall free of charge. Climbers must fill out a climbing wall waiver prior to climbing. Climbing shoes are available for free at the recreation center's equipment window on the ground floor.

Outdoor Adventure Trips

Outdoor Adventure Trips include kayaking, backpacking, and others throughout New Hampshire and New England on most weekends throughout the academic year. Prices vary. Trips are available to faculty, staff, adjunct employees, students, and community members.

Kayak Clinics

Kayak clinics are available every Wednesday night from 9-11pm at the Field House Indoor Pool. Learn to enter, exit, roll and other kayak skills. $5 per class, or $20 or 5 classes.

Recreation Equipment Rentals

A wide variety of athletic equipment and outdoor gear can be rented from the equipment room on the ground floor of the Hamel Recreation Center.
