Students are more receptive and learn better from informed, educated peers. That is why Health & Wellness is excited to launch the Wellness Ambassador program.
Wellness Ambassadors work with Health & Wellness to engage UNH students in conversations about wellness and how to start make lifestyle changes for personal and academic success.
What is wellness?
The Wellness Wheel is a holistic model that encourages individuals to become more aware of the interconnectedness of each dimension, and how it shows that all aspects of wellness contribute to feeling well, both physically and mentally.
Wellness Ambassadors gain expertise in the eight dimensions of the Wellness Wheel:
- Emotional wellness
- Social wellness
- Physical wellness
- Spiritual wellness
- Environmental wellness
- Occupational wellness
- Intellectual wellness
- Financial wellness
Lifestyle Enhancement Provided by UNH Wellness Ambassadors
Wellness Ambassadors are trained peer educators who help UNH students learn how to:
- Cope with stress
- Get more sleep
- Experience enjoyable and safer sex
- Make better choices about alcohol, other drugs and tobacco
- Build good relationships
- Feel more confident
- Practice self-compassion
- Be a clear communicator
- Understand how to cope with difficult emotions
- Use the wellness wheel to practice self-care
This program is supervised by our Wellness Educators/Counselors - Shannon Seiferth and Dawn Zitney.
Expectations of UNH Wellness Ambassadors
- Commit to being a Wellness Ambassador for at least 2 semesters (fall 2017 for training and spring 2018 for programming implmentation).
- Complete iLeap (Innovative Leadership with Education & Action among Peers), an integrated training collaboration between Health & Wellness, the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA), and the Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention Program (SHARPP)
- Work collaboratively with Health & Wellness staff and other peer education groups
- Signed agreement to be a part of the Health & Wellness team
- Time commitment of approximately 3 hours/week
- Weekly meetings (60 minutes/week)
- Participation on sub-committee (60 minutes/week), as needed
- Implementation of health promotion activities (60-90 minutes/week)
- Attend monthly training on health specific topics (1 hour/month)
- Attend UNH events as a peer educator (1x/month)
