Inspire, Challenge, Model, Enable, Encourage
PEERS TEACHING PEERS about student life issues is the goal of the Division of Student Affairs Peer Education Team. The SPEAC (Students Promoting, Education and Awareness on Campus) program, formerly Peer Education, was initiated by interested students who believed their responsibility was to teach their peers and learn more about themselves in the process.
The SPEAC program trains UNH students in topics/issues that are important to college students so they can go into the campus community to raise awareness and educate their peers. The topics addressed by SPEAC are:
- Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs
- Diversity
- Nutrition
- Sexual Health
- Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention (SHARPP, intimate partner abuse awareness/prevention)
- Wellness
A variety of educational programs are available under each of the topical areas and in many cases, they may be tailored to the specific needs of a group.
Educational programs are presented by SPEAC participants in academic classes, residence halls, fraternities/sororities and athletic teams. SPEAC participants are also involved with the development of programs, special events and educational materials.

What's the Word on the Street?
SPEAC has been providing UNH students with opportunities for professional and personal growth for over 15 years.
See what past SPEAC participants had to say about their experience:
I wanted to educate the community about something I feel passionate about.
Opportunities, such as impacting the college population with my voice, and meeting new people, have played a key role in my achievements at UNH.
Immersing myself in peer education has launched my career goals, education, and self-confidence.
We’re not just out there trying to give information to random students, we're out there helping our friends.
It has been one of the best experiences of my first year at college.
