Women Working Wonders

Former Academic Advisor, University Advising & Career Center

Carol Tonge

How she finds balance in her life:

"I think there are times where I draw from the spirit of my grandmother because she passed away two years ago. So I think she's always around to help me out sometimes, to help me balance things. And every so often I talk to my man upstairs, JC, Jesus Christ that is... So I think between my grandmother, Jesus, and just living day to day--I think that's the only way I do it."

Joys and Challenges of Being A Woman:

"There's no one specific role for women, you can do anything you want to do."

Hopes and Dreams For Others

"When you figure out in life--negative energies and negative people--you get rid of them. Because that negative energy is stressful, it's drama, and you don't need it."

Passionate About...

"I love working with students. I had a guidance counselor in high school that was also a college advisor. She was instrumental in me going to college, finishing, completing Middlebury, coming here to graduate school, and now I'm doing the exact same thing that she did for me in high school. Now I'm advising students in college. Sometimes it blows my mind."

Challenges in your life...

"I had my daughter during my first year at Middlebury. The biological father wanted nothing to do with the baby. My mother was a huge support; she was mom and dad to my daughter. I don't think I would be able to be where I am right now, to be able to finish my undergrad, get my masters degree, and do what I am doing now, no way, if my mother didn't help me."
