Women Working Wonders
divide

Michele Holt-Shannon
Assistant Director of Student Life

Michele Holt-Shannon

Years at UNH:

10

Balance Between Home and Work Life:

"For me, I focus in the moment around how I work, how I am with my kids, my partner, my friends; doing things that I love; I’m invested in the moment; doing as little as possible that is heart and soul and body draining.

Making sure that all parts of my life are in balance and not "out of whack" is important

Time alone; reading alone is important."

Most Passionate About:

Passionate around the underdog; involved in advocacy groups and justice issues.

"Education is freedom and is liberating"

We need to engage and learn from each other more genuinely and be more authentic.

Joys and Challenges of Being a Woman:

"Women can do anything; have fewer gender boundaries; women can give birth."

Joys are endless being a woman. There are gender biases and instances in the past that were discriminatory; but feels empowered. Some positions suffer more gender inequities; teaching female faculty for instance; feels fortunate in her position as a woman in Student Affairs

Balancing is a constant challenge.

Not being authentic is challenging; not communicating in a good form is challenging.

Hopes and Dreams For Everyone:

"This is ideological and emotional for me; I wish people the resources and the love to be who they are meant to be in this world"

Food, shelter and love are basic needs that everyone should have access to.
