What are Pubic Lice?
Pubic Lice, or Crabs, are small parasites that feed on blood.
How do I get Pubic Lice?
They may be transmitted by intimate sexual contact or contact with infected bedding, clothing, furniture, and toilet seats.
Pubic Lice can live off a human host for up to 24 hours, making it possible to get crabs from bedding or clothing.
What are the symptoms of Pubic Lice?
The major symptom of Pubic Lice is itching, which usually begins five days after exposure.
How are Pubic Lice diagnosed?
Pubic Lice can be seen by the naked eye. They are pale grey but darker when swollen with blood. They attaches themselves and their eggs (which are white) to pubic hair, underarm hair, facial hair, or other course body hair.
How are Pubic Lice treated?
Pubic Lice can be treated with non-prescription medications, and repeated head-to-toe application may be needed to completely get rid of pubic lice and their eggs.
All bedding, clothing, etc. that may have been exposed should be thoroughly washed or dry-cleaned.
How do I prevent Pubic Lice?
Avoid physical contact with anyone who has them until they are completely gone. Avoid contact with clothing, bedding, or furniture of someone who has Crabs as well.
