Suzanne Sonneborn, RD, LD
Nutrition Educator

Educational Background:

  • B.S. Dietetics, University of New Hampshire, Durham, 1978
  • Dietetic Internship, Yale-New Haven Hospital, 1979

Philosophy/Approach With Students:

Suzanne loves working with college students, and living with them too, as she has four college-age children of her own. College students keep her energized and give her a fresh perspective on life. She enjoys being both preceptor and student in her role as educator. Suzanne helps students be aware of how to balance all aspects of their lives. She emphasizes moderation around food and nutrition as part of a balanced lifestyle.

Role On Campus:

Suzanne is responsible for nutrition education programming campus wide. She coordinates nutrition education presentations to sororities, residence hall students, commuter students, athletes and members of the community. In 2003 she co-authored a cookbook GOOD EATS, Quick and Easy Food for Busy College Students. You might find Suzanne guest lecturing in an academic class, or delivering a presentation to local high school students on body image or providing information on how to enhance sports performance at the Campus Rec Every year Suzanne organizes campus wide events such as Love Your Body Day and brings a variety of different speakers to campus.

Suzanne supervises a nutrition/eating concerns peer education group on campus. She provides training and education to students who educate their peers. Every semester she recruits these students from different backgrounds and various academic disciplines. In addition, Suzanne supervises a dietetic intern and field experience students each semester.

Suzanne is an excellent resource for students inquiring about the field of nutrition as well as students looking for nutrition information. She is often interviewed by The New Hampshire and other media sources to get an expert's opinion about current nutrition topics.

Little Known Facts About Suzanne:

Before Suzanne became a resident of New Hampshire, she grew up in Long Island , NY. She came to New Hampshire to attend UNH as an undergraduate major in nutrition. Her nutrition career includes working as a clinical dietitian, counseling patients in our own private practice and consulting with a sports medicine practice. Later she focused her energy on raising her family and returned to UNH as a nutrition educator in 2001. She lives in the New Hampshire seacoast with her husband, her four children and her yellow lab Manny.

How Suzanne Takes Care Of Herself:

Suzanne is a food and fitness-focused individual. Food is at the center of time spent with friends and family. She enjoys gardening, cooking, traveling, being physically active (walking the beach, pilates, bike riding, and tennis).
