How I approach my work with students:

I consider working with colleges students of all ages a special opportunity. Each student who comes for nutrition counseling is respected, honored in his/her own right and treated as an equal in a supportive and relaxed environment. Collaboration and partnership are paired with compassion and understanding plus a little humor for good measure. This approach along with reflective listening and individualized education is intended to help students become motivated to achieve their goals for nutrition well-being.

Why a student wants to see me:

Students see me for general medical nutrition therapy, which I integrate with complementary and alternative nutrition:

  • Cardiovascular concerns: high blood pressure, high cholesterol or triglyceride levels.
  • Sports nutrition: maximizing performance, building lean muscle mass.
  • Weight management: how to gain or lose weight (using a non-diet approach)
  • Food allergies: lactose and gluten intolerance, nut, soy and other food allergies etc.
  • General nutrition health: vegetarian diet information, eating well on campus, navigating the dining halls, quick and easy cooking on a budget, improving immune status and fitness/energy levels.
  • Disordered eating and eating concerns: anorexia and bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, eating disorder not otherwise specified and body image issues.
