What she does:
Sheila provides individual counseling to students who want to explore their relationship with alcohol and other drugs. Students who have questions about their use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs could benefit from talking with Sheila. Sheila also provides support groups to those students who have stopped drinking or using, and want ongoing support in their recovery, as well as support groups to those who have been affected by a loved one’s use of alcohol or other drugs (parent, partner, friend).
Sheila also provides Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug education programs to students, and provides training and consultation to staff and faculty.
What brings her here?
Sheila has been working in the substance abuse field since 1987 where she has worked in a variety of settings to include inpatient, outpatient, partial hospitalization programs, and schools.
She has worked on various committees with missions that focused on reducing alcohol and other drug use among youth. These included a Washington DC task force, and New Futures, A Community Leadership Initiative as a leadership partner.
Sheila's motivation for working with college students is the ability to see their own motivation move them toward healthy change! Through her journey of working with a variety of ages throughout the years, she has discovered that college-aged students are the most rewarding to work with. Sheila has been known to have a lot of energy in dealing with this population. She brings not only her years of experience to the ATOD position at Health Services, but she also brings with her humanness, energy and a great sense of humor.
How She Takes Care Of Herself:
The best form of relaxation for Sheila is spending time with her husband, two daughters, and dog "Carmella." She enjoys water skiing, snow skiing, hiking and walking. The lake and the ocean are an integral part of her serenity. She has become very knowledgeable in directions to NH and MA hockey rinks, as well as NH soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse fields. She is a true "Sports Mom Fan!" She enjoys spending time with family and friends and usually these events focus around new and exciting foods, an interest she also shares with her colleagues in the office of Health Education & Promotion at Health Services.
