Sustainability and Food

Sustainability from farm to fork promotes eating and living well. There are several resources available to promote sustainable nutrition.

Seacoast Harvest: A local food guide for seafood

Determining which seafood is the healthiest and most responsibly harvested is a complex and controversial task. Our goals are to support our local food producers, the larger ocean environment, and the future of fish species. Educating ourselves as consumers enables us to engage in dialog with our seafood purveyors and make informed purchasing decisions. When buying seafood, we should attempt to purchase species that have healthy and sustainable populations, and whose harvest does not damage critical habitat and has a limited bycatch.

Seacoast Harvest: A local food guide for seasonal fruits and vegetables

Seacoast Harvest is an online guide to farms, farmers' markets, and farm stands of Rockingham, Strafford, and York Counties of New Hampshire and Maine. Produced annually through a collaboration of Slow Food Seacoast and Seacoast Eat Local.

6 Arguments for a Greener Diet

A diet based more on plant-based foods than meats and dairy can lead to extra years of healthy living. This very same diet reduces environmental damage and farm animal suffering. Eating green brings to bear the science on a greener diet and its impact on the environment.
