Meditative Practice for College Students

Time Management
Learning how to manage your time is a beneficial skill to learn that will help you feel more organized and confident in your academic, personal, and professional life.
- Scheduling is the process by which you look at the time available to you, and plan how you will use it to achieve your goals. Start by making a schedule of your time commitments that don’t change. Include classes, work, meals, exercise, etc.
- Next, work in study times using the following suggestions:
- Use daylight hours for classes and study.
- Create regular study times each week.
- Think about your body clock and schedule the hardest work during the best concentration times.
- Use small blocks of time between classes to review class notes. Reviewing material after each class significantly increases retention.
- Work in short time blocks and take a break every hour.
Other time management and study skills suggestions:
- Create a daily “to do list” for each of your class assignments and other related responsibilities. Check your list regularly to make sure tasks have been completed for that day.
- Study with people from your class – set up times to discuss notes and readings.
- Find your place to study that is free from distraction.
- Prioritize items on your “to do list” and divide larger assignments into smaller, more manageable parts.
- Turn your cell phone and IM off when working on your computer.
- Understand what you can realistically achieve with your time.
