About Massage Therapy at Health Services

Who provides the massage services?

Massage services are provided by Massage Therapists licensed in the state of New Hampshire.

Can I choose whether to have a man or a woman Massage Therapist?

At this time we only have female Massage Therapists.

How far in advance should I schedule my appointment?

We encourage booking appointments at least one week in advance. However, towards the end of each semester we tend to book-up more quickly.

Is there any paperwork I need to complete prior to my massage?

Yes, every academic year you must complete a Massage Intake Form. Please complete and bring the form with you to your appointment. The Massage Therapist will review this prior to your massage.

What can I wear during the massage?

Massage is about comfort. We recommend that you wear what makes you feel comfortable. This could include wearing nothing at all or your undergarments. At all times during the massage, your body will be covered by a sheet except for the body part being massaged. At no time are private areas of your body exposed.

Can my partner and I get a massage at the same time?

No, unfortunately we do not have the space or staffing to provide this service.

Can I buy a gift certificate?

Yes! Gift certificates are available for anyone to purchase for a current UNH student, faculty or staff member. You may purchase a gift certificate online or by visiting the Health Services Business Office on the first floor in Health Services.

Do I tip the Massage Therapists?

It is your personal decision. Massage Therapists do not expect tips.

Do you use massage oils?

Actually, we use massage creams because they absorb quickly and moisturize the skin. We also find that massage creams are less greasy than oils and wash out more easily from clothing.

What types of massage do you provide?

Our massage therapists are trained to provide gentle relaxing massage (called Swedish massage), deep tissue work (called neuromuscular massage), or a combination of both. We also offer hot stone massage, a specialty massage that uses smooth, flat heated stones that are placed on specific spots on the your body and also used to massage the body.

Traditional massages are $35 for students and $45 for faculty and staff. Hot stone massages are $45 for students and $55 for faculty and staff.

When you call or schedule your appointment online, please specify if you would like a traditional massage or a hot stone massage. Learn more about making appointments...

Can I have the Massage Therapist focus on a particular area?

Yes, please let the Massage Therapist know the areas you want them to focus on.

What are the health benefits of massage?

There are many, but here are a few:

  • Relieves muscular tension and relaxes muscles spasms
  • Increases blood circulation
  • Increases flexibility and strength of joints
  • Promotes overall healing and well-being

Giving yourself a massage may be one of the best things you could do to take very good care of yourself.

What if I have a medical issue or condition?

If you have a medical issue or condition and believe that massage will be a helpful aspect of your treatment, you will need to be seen by a UNH Health Services physician to be medically cleared before you are seen by a massage therapist.

I had a massage and would like to provide feedback, how can I do this?

We are always looking for ways to improve our services. If you had a massage at Health Services, please take a moment to fill out this brief evaluation. Thank you in advance for your time and feedback!
