The Body Art Project
divide Body Art Project image

The Summer of 2000 I returned from sabbatical leave, having attended school for Massage Therapy. While there, I had the rich opportunity in my course work to (re)learn about each of the systems of the body. During this time, I lived in wonder and awe of the delicate and masterful complexity of this human form that we each inhabit. I often experienced goose bumps in what seemed like new discovery of the remarkable magic and artistry that is the expression of the human form. The simple act of breathing, or eating, feeling emotion, thinking, remembering, or loving someone left me with a profound sense of life in my own human form in all its fragility and beauty.

Working on the physical body through massage also brought me to places of appreciation and connection with the ethereal body, the creative spirit soul that we each inherently embody.

The Body Art Project is an expression of the beauty, magic and artistry of the systems of the body from the unique perspectives of ten University of New Hampshire student artists. Student artists were interviewed and selected to create artwork on each system of the body. The artwork that you see today is an expression of their own unique perspective, along with their particular expertise, of each system of the body.

The goals of this project encourage the intersection of art, science, and education. As current and future students utilize this health center, may they be both enlightened by the artistic expression of their peers and creatively informed about what lies beneath their own skin.

This project was made possible by generous donations from the Parents Association and UNH Health Services.
