Biofeedback technology uses electronic equipment to measure and monitor changes in one’s internal physiological state while teaching breathing, relaxation and meditation exercises.
Individual sessions with a computer-based biofeedback program are available to current UNH students who have paid the health fee and USNH employees.

What is biofeedback?
Biofeedback is a method of training using electronic equipment to help individuals use the mind to control the body. Biofeedback programs and machines measure functions such as heart rate, breath rate, body temperature and brain wave activity. Individuals receive information about these functions so they may learn to control these processes to assist with pain and illness, manage stress and enhance overall health and well-being.
There is over 40 years of research that proves biofeedback can be a powerful and helpful tool for improving health and well-being.
What type of biofeedback is offered through Health Services?
Health Services has a computer based biofeedback program that:
- teaches a variety of stress-reduction techniques
- provides opportunity for practice
- monitors breath rate, heart rate, body perspiration and temperature
This program will assist you in developing skills to use in your daily life.
The program is divided into 15 sessions. It only takes a maximum of 30-minutes to complete each session. Students can work through the program at his/her own pace. We recommend only doing, at most, one session each day. The program can be completed over several weeks.
How can I access the biofeedback program?
To use the Biofeedback program, you must make an appointment. You can make an appointment online or by calling (603) 862-3823. All appointments are 30-minutes. There is no fee to use this program.
You will check-in for your appointment at the Office of Health Education and Promotion, room 249, Health Services. Instructions on how to use the program, headphones (you can bring your own if you would like) and educational materials related to the session will be provided.
The biofeedback machine is open to the UNH community during the winter and summer break only.
