- Graceful Refusals Don't Just Happen
Choosing not to drink when others are drinking can be hard. If you decide not to drink, make a plan.
Here are some ideas:
- Make sure there is something to drink besides alcohol. If you can, take your own beverage or carry a water bottle.
- If someone asks if you would like a drink, just say "no thanks." For most people, they are just asking to be polite and will respect your decision.
- If you are asked why you are not drinking, say what works for you, "I don’t drink," "I have something important to do tomorrow-classes, work," "I’m in training," "I’m the designated driver" "I’m taking a break," "It’s not my thing."
- Remember, you don’t need alcohol to have a good time.
- Most people probably won’t notice that you not drinking or will care.
