- How to Party at UNH
So, it's Friday night and you don't have anything to do? Your friends are getting ready to go to an off-campus party. You don't really feel like a heavy night of drinking, but then again, you don't want to sit home and not have any fun. What are the choices?
- Go to the party and drink away the night, keeping up with the pacesetters
- Go to the party and have one drink and nurse it all night
- Go to the party and bring your own drink (non-alcoholic)
- Find some other friends where you live and make your own fun.
There are many ways to unwind, relax, and have a good time at UNH, check out what’s happening on campus this weekend at the MUB Afterhours calendar.
Going to parties is one way, but realize there are many decision to be made before and during the party. If you choose to not drink alcohol, be ready to refuse a drink when offered to you. Come up with 2 or 3 ways to say no and stay consistent with your message. See Graceful Refusals for more ideas.
Know that there are lots of other students who are also making low-risk drinking choices and you can feel good about making decisions that are right for you.
So what's low-risk drinking?
Low-risk drinking can mean not drinking at all, being choosey about where and with whom you drink, and drinking only until you begin to feel relaxed and before you lose your inhibitions. And the next morning, you can wake up with no headache or nausea, a clear memory of the night before, and reflect on the fun time you can actually remember.
Most UNH students make low-risk choices. Make decisions that you can live with and enjoy your friends, college life, weekends, free time and just being with yourself. Stay safe and have fun!
