Nominate a Student to Become a S.A.F.E. Peer Educator
We are currently seeking students to become involved in the 2014-2015 S.A.F.E. Peer Education program. Nominations are due May 17th.
S.A.F.E. stands for Substance Awareness through Functional Education. The mission of the S.A.F.E. program is to actively engage students to consider important issues related to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) by presenting factual, relevant information that encourages UNH students to reflect on their lifestyle and make healthy choices.
The peer education model is built on the belief that students learn more and better from each other when it comes to personal and more sensitive subjects. Peer Educators are trained to provide their peers factual information, promote discussion and reflection, and create a learning environment that engages students in the learning process.
S.A.F.E. Candidate Requirements
Candidates for the 201-2015 program are committed students with either demonstrated or emerging leadership skills who you believe may be interested in combining specialized training in health education and wellness with a desire to make a difference on the UNH campus. Peer Educators receive leadership training through BACCHUS, a nationally recognized Certified Peer Educator program, which helps students to successfully develop and implement campus ATOD prevention programs.
What can Peer Educators provide?
The S.A.F.E. Peer Educators present educational programs on a variety of ATOD issues to student organizations, residence halls students, academic classes, Athletics, and the Fraternity and Sorority members.
