Symptoms of H1N1 virus (Swine Flu)
The symptoms of H1N1 virus (Swine Flu) are similar to symptoms of seasonal flu and may include:
- Fever (greater than 100°F)
- Sore throat
- Cough
- Stuffy nose
- Chills
- Headache and body aches
- Fatigue
Some of the people who have become ill with H1N1 virus (Swine Flu) reported diarrhea and vomiting as well.

Like seasonal flu, H1N1 virus (Swine Flu) may cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions.

There are antiviral medications for prevention and treatment of H1N1 virus (Swine Flu) that a doctor can prescribe. Do not go to work, school, or travel while ill.
In adults, emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
- Sudden dizziness
- Confusion
- Severe or persistent vomiting
