Informed Consent
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the on-line alcohol education program, My Student Body (MSB). The study is being conducted by the Office of Health Education and Promotion, Health Services at the University of New Hampshire. The use of human subjects in this project has been approved by the UNH Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the Protection of Human Subjects in Research.
Important information for you to consider:
- You are expected to complete the on-line curriculum regardless of whether or not you agree to be part of the study.
- It will take no additional time for you to participate in the study, or not.
- Your participation is purely voluntary.
- Your responses to the survey questions will remain anonymous and any identifying questions will be separated from your responses by MSB before being sent back to UNH.
- You will be able to request a summary of the survey findings.
Benefits of the Study
You are not expected to receive any direct benefits from your participation. However, the investigators hope that the information gained here may benefit society indirectly. The results of this research may be published or reported to scientific bodies. Any such reports or publications will be reported in a group format.
Potential risks of the Study
While it is not possible to identify all risks in this research project, all reasonable efforts have been undertaken to minimize any such potential risks. Participation is not expected to present any greater risk of your loss of personal privacy than you would encounter in everyday life when sending and/or receiving information over the Internet. However, you should understand that any form of communication over the Internet does carry a minimal risk of loss of confidentiality.
Confidentiality and Anonymity
We will do everything in our power to protect your anonymity, including disregarding any questions that could be identifiable if only a small number of respondents (15 respondents or fewer) answer the question.
MyStudentBody.com protects personal data is collected through the registration process and assessments. The company, Inflexxion (MSB) takes the following precautions:
- MSB also does not link any IP addresses to personal data collected and therefore no one at the University will have access to your IP address or other identifying information.
- Inflexxion (MSB) does not report any personal information to other third party sources. They will provide the following specifics to UNH:
- whether its specified students have completed certain courses offered on the Site (“Student Course Completion Data”),
- whether its specified students have completed behavior surveys following their completion of each course, but not personally identifiable results of any such surveys (“Student Post Assessment Completion Data”), and
- aggregate Site Data related to its Students and other Site users.
