The Granada Study Abroad Program in Spain at the University of Granada is offered by " Centro de Lenguas Modernas ", a division of the University of Granada, and is located in an attractive downtown building. All of the facilities of the University are available to our students. Students from all over the world study in the "Centro" program and Spanish is therefore the common language.
Granada, an Andalusian city located in southern Spain, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, less than an hour away from the Mediterranean Sea and crowned by the Alhambra, a special beauty and a visit here will be an unforgettable experience for all of those who decide to make the journey. This internationally renowned city boasts a rich Arab and Christian past as well as its own vibrant present with a friendly inviting atmosphere.
Eligibility
The Granada study abroad program is open to students who have successfully completed at least Spanish 631 or its equivalent and have a cumulative GPA of "2.5", and who will have at least sophomore standing in the year of participation. Applicants from institutions other than UNH are also welcome to apply. All interested students are invited to contact program director Prof. John Chaston at jchaston@unh.edu.
The Program
A member of the UNH faculty will be in residence in Granada to assist students and to administer the program.
Course Registration, Financial Aid, and Scholarships
For UNH Students, Registration will be made through the Dept LLC. Participants will be enrolled as full-time students in SPAN 685 (Fall Semester) or SPAN 686 (Spring Semester). Course selection will be made during post-acceptance orientation meetings.
Financial Aid and Scholarship application procedures are the same as for an on-campus semester.
Housing
Students are housed with local families. Housing includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Courses
Students take five classes while in Spain for 4 credits each and receive 20 credits at UNH. Class meetings are Monday through Thursday, with possible excursions Friday through Sunday.
Tuition and fees
The student pays UNH tuition and a course fee, which cover tuition and academic fees in Granada, health insurance, room and board (three meals a day), planned excursions and activities, and cell phone. Transportation to and from Granada, books, and personal expenses are not included.
Application Deposit
Students accepted into the program must submit a $350 non-refundable deposit (which applies toward the course fee) by Nov 1 for Spring and March 15 for Fall.
For those accepted to the program, you will need to download a copy of the Liability Statement and the Study Abroad Agreement Forms (in .pdf format), print them out, sign them, and mail them to the program at the address on the forms.
