Study Away
The Department of Geography strongly encourages students who wish to study abroad to do so and will do everything it can to facilitate the process. If you plan to study abroad, please consider applying for a grant from the Robert G. LeBlanc Memorial Fund.
Robert G. LeBlanc Memorial Fund
The purpose of the Robert G. LeBlanc Memorial Fund is to provide financial assistance to allow University of New Hampshire undergraduate students to participate in an international study experience, through the Center for International Education or a similar successor program. The fund is intended to support students studying human culture and place, with preference given to geography majors. Recipients will be selected and awards will be administered by the Director of the Center for International Education or his/her designee.
Study Away
UNH offers a wide range of opportunities to study abroad while earning credit towards your degree. Often geography students studying abroad have been able to take courses that we do not or cannot offer in our small department. Without exception, geography students who have studied abroad describe the experience as one of the most enriching and transforming of their lives. Our students have studied in such diverse countries as Britain, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Ghana, and India.
Liberal Arts Study Abroad
The College of Liberal Arts administers nine study abroad programs that can take you to England, France, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, or Spain. When you participate in any one of these programs, you pay UNH tuition and all student fees are waived except the technology fee. Each program has a single program fee which covers room, board, and excursions. You are eligible for federal financial aid just as you would be if you studied at UNH. In the semester-long programs, you earn 16 credits. As long as you earn a C or better in your courses, you are guaranteed the full 16 credits. It is also possible to satisfy general education requirements with the courses you take abroad.
