Welcome to the University of New Hampshire's Formula SAE website. Formula SAE is a competition designed for college students by the Society of Automotive Engineers. In this competition, aspiring students from all majors come together to design, build, and race a single seat, open cockpit race car.

The Society of Automotive Engineers describes the competition as:

The Formula SAE® competition is for SAE student members to conceive, design, fabricate, and compete with small formula-style racing car s. The restrictions on the car frame and engine are limited so that the knowledge, creativity, and imagination of the students are challenged. The cars are built with a team effort over a period of about one year and are taken to the annual competition for judging and comparison with approximately 120 other vehicles from colleges and universities throughout the world. The end result is a great experience for young engineers in a meaningful engineering project as well as the opportunity of working in a dedicated team effort.

More information about the competition can be found on the Formula SAE website.

The UNH Precision Racing team is hard at work building this year's Formula SAE car. This year's car is based largely off of Car 86, the team's 2009 entrant

Currently UNH Precision Racing is in it's 7th season and will be competing at Formula SAE in Michigan.

A special thank you to all our current and past sponsors! Sponsors are the driving force behind UNH Precision Racing. Without their unconditional support our team would not be where it is today!

The 2009 UNH Formula SAE was officially unveiled at the Undergraduate Research Conference on April 22nd.  The team has put in a ton of time and effort and the car looks amazing.  In addition to unveiling the car, the team also took home first place in the URC for the mechanical engineering projects!  Check out the event coverage in The New Hampshire, the University’s newspaper, and also on FStotal.com

Earlier today the team participated in its first official track day of the season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  The purpose of this track day was to test the critical systems on the car and start looking at potential drivers for competition.  After a few rough laps the car spun out and the torque from the engine pulled on the bearing blocks which caused the mounts to deform.  The differential and sprocket moved closer to the engine, creating slack in the chain.   The team is currently evaluating the damage and redesigning the bearing blocks.  Luckily, we were able to test the car with enough time before competition to find the problem and devise a solution.  Despite the setback, the car will still be ready for the unveiling later this week.
