Environmental Protection Agency, Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Fellowship

Description: The STAR fellowship program helps build capacity in universities with limited funding for research by awarding graduate fellowships to students in environmental fields. The purpose of the fellowship program is to encourage promising students to obtain advanced degrees and pursue careers in environmental fields.
Deadline: December
Value: Up to $42,000 per year
Eligibility: Graduating senior; 1st year MA student; 1st, 2nd or 3rd year PhD student; U.S. citizen, attend a fully accredited U.S. university

National Security Education Programs (BOREN)

Description: Funds serious language study and/or work overseas for a summer, one semester, or a year for undergraduates and graduate students in areas other than Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Focus on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad.
Deadline: January
Value: Maximum of $20,000/academic year. There is a service requirement.
Eligibility: U.S. citizenship; planning a study abroad experience in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand that meets home institution standards; must also study a foreign language in the country of study.

Truman Scholarships

Description: Recognizes students who have the potential and initiative to be “agents of change.” Provides funding to students pursuing graduate degrees in public service fields. Scholars are required to work in public service for three of the seven years following completion of a Foundation funded graduate degree program as a condition of receiving Truman funds.

Value: Provides up to $30,000 in funding
Eligibility: Juniors; pursuing degrees in public service; record of service and leadership.

Fuller Fellowships

Description: The Alvan T. - Viola D. Fuller - American Cancer Society Junior Research Fellowships offer undergraduate students from New England an opportunity to participate in laboratory research with accomplished investigators for 10 weeks during the summer. Upon selection, fellows are placed in labs at leading New England research institutions, such as teaching hospitals, universities, and medical schools, and given a $4,500 stipend.

Eligibility: Applicants must be permanent residents of New England (CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, or VT) and enrolled in a four-year undergraduate program anywhere in the country; seniors and juniors are eligible, and preference is given to those with advanced science/public health course work; lab skill and interest in research are prerequisites; and minority students and students with American Cancer Society volunteer experience are encouraged to apply.

Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation-Thomas R. Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship

Description: The Thomas R. Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship program provides funding to participants as they are prepared academically and professionally to enter the United States Department of State Foreign Service. Junior year applicants receive funding for senior year and first year of graduate study; senior year applicants are funded for two years of masters program.
Deadline: January
Value: financial support of up to $50,000 annually towards tuition and mandatory fees (excluding health insurance), living stipend (based on the institution’s room and board rate), reimbursement for books and some travel
Eligibility: United States citizens at the time of application will be considered. Juniors or seniors with a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the time of application.
Major: Open to all areas of study, but particularly for those interested in Foreign Affairs

Donald M. Payne International Development Fellowship

Description: The USAID Donald M. Payne International Development Graduate Fellowship Program seeks to attract outstanding young people who are interested in pursuing careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). If you want to work on the front lines of some of the most pressing global challenges of our times — poverty, hunger, injustice, disease, environmental degradation, climate change, conflict and violent extremism – the Foreign Service of the U.S. Agency for International Development provides an opportunity to advance U.S. foreign policy interests and reflect the American people's compassion and support of human dignity. The Payne Fellowship, which provides up to $90,000 in benefits over two years for graduate school, internships, and professional development activities, provides a unique pathway to the USAID Foreign Service.The Payne Fellowship encourages the application of members of minority groups who have historically been underrepresented in international development careers and those with financial need.

Eligibility: U.S. citizenship; seeking admission to enter graduate school in the fall of 2013 for a two-year program at a U.S. university; cumulative GPA of 3.2 or above on 4.0 scale. Fund for Education Abroad

Description: 15 scholarships of up to $5000 available for approved study abroad programs lasting four weeks or longer. FEA is committed to increasing the opportunities for dedicated American students to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs by reducing financial restrictions through the provision of grants and scholarships. General scholarships available, as well as several special designation scholarships, including one for students in the New England area.

Eligibility: Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. Currently enrolled as an undergraduate at a college or university in the U.S.; applying for a study abroad program eligible for credit at the student’s educational institution; study abroad program must run for a minimum of 4 weeks in country; be committed to supporting education abroad in his/her campus community through work with the FEA and his/her campus education abroad staff upon return

Killam Fellowship

Description: The Killam Fellowships Program provides an opportunity for exceptional undergraduate students from universities in the United States to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in Canada. Students may participate in the program either as a direct exchange student (registering at their home university, paying their home fees, and attending the host university as an exchange visitor) or as a self-placed visiting student (registering at the host university and paying host tuition fees).

Value: $5000 for one semester; $10,000 for academic year
Eligibility: All American applicants for the Killam Fellowships Program must be U.S. citizens; full-time undergraduate students in good standing at a fully accredited degree granting college or university in the United States; have met the eligibility requirements of their home university(as they relate to the participation in international exchange programs); be fluent in the English language (and/or French, where appropriate);have a superior and competitive academic record; complete the application process prior to the published deadlines, in the case of the direct exchange applicants; and, be nominated by one's home university.

Description: Full-time paid position as a research assistant to the Endowments senior associates.

Eligibility: Graduating seniors or graduates who have not begun graduate studies. U.S. citizenship and Non-U.S. citizenship if attending a U.S. university
