Kristina Reardon, Fullbring Recipient 2010

Kristina Reardon is set to graduate in the fall of 2010 with an MFA in writing (fiction). She has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for the 2010 – 11 academic year to conduct research through the Department of Translation at the University of Ljubljana in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She will be translating short fiction written by women since Slovenia declared independence from Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. Her work will fill a void in scholarship, since women are traditionally under-represented in Slovenian to English translation. She hopes to compile her translations into an anthology for publication.
Kristina was a member of the Liberal Arts Honors Program at Providence College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2008 with a double major in English and Spanish and a minor in Women’s Studies. Upon graduation, she earned awards for essay writing, fiction, prose poetry, and excellence in scholarship in both literature and Women’s Studies. A short story, “Stones on the Ljubljanica,” was recently given an honorable mention at the UNH English Department awards ceremony. Her work has been published in the Newport Review, The Alembic, Rhode Island Monthly magazine, and the Stonebridge Press. Upon her return from Slovenia, Kristina hopes to enter a PhD program where she can study literature, writing, and translation.
