Boren Scholarships & Fellowships
NSEP David L. Boren Scholarships for undergraduate students and NSEP David L. Boren Fellowships for graduate students provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. students to add an important international and language component to their educations. Boren Awards focus on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study that are critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad.

  • Undergraduate Deadline: December 9, 2011.
  • Graduate Deadline: December 9, 2011.

Carnegie Junior Fellows
A substantive one-year working experience in Washington, D.C. for graduating seniors with international affairs career aspirations.

  • Deadline: January 15, 2012.

Ford Diversity
For graduate students pursuing doctoral degrees; aimed to increase ethnic and racial diversity within faculties and curricula.

  • Predoctoral fellowship application submission deadline is November 1, 2011.
  • Dissertation and postdoctoral fellowship application submission deadlines are November 8, 2011.
  • Supporting document receipt deadline (all fellowship levels) is January 6, 2012.

Fulbright
Provides funding for research and study abroad to recent graduates. Must begin application spring semester.

  • Deadline: September 7, 2012.

Gates
For grads in any field to study at Cambridge in England; must be accepted to Cambridge in order to compete for the grant.

  • Deadline: October 15, 2012.

Gilman
For ALL majors! Pays up to 8,000 dollars toward a study abroad program (either summer, fall, spring, or academic year). You must be Pell Grant Eligible to receive this award.

  • Deadline: March 1 (Summer and Fall); Early Fall (Spring).

Goldwater
Provides one or two years of funding for undergrads studying mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering.

  • Deadline: December 2, 2011.

Hertz
For graduate studies in any area of applied science. Must begin application spring semester.

  • Deadline: October 31, 2011.

Javits
The sponsor supports fellowships for eligible students of superior ability, selected on the basis of demonstrated achievement, financial need, and exceptional promise, to undertake graduate study in selected fields in the arts, humanities, and social sciences leading to a doctoral degree or to a master's degree in those fields in which the master's degree is the terminal highest degree awarded in the selected field of study at accredited institutions of higher education.

  • Deadline: September 30, 2012.

Madison
For those who are interested in teaching American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary school level to investigate this fellowship opportunity. In addition to the financial assistance for a master's degree program, Fellows have the unique opportunity to attend a summer institute to strengthen their knowledge of the origins and development of American constitutional government.

  • Deadline: Late Fall.

Marshall
Funds two years of post baccalaureate study in the United Kingdom. Must begin application spring semester.

  • Deadline: Candidate must contact the fellowships office at the beginning of the second semester of Junior year to begin application process.

Mitchell
One year of doctoral studies at a university in Ireland. Must begin application spring semester.

  • Deadline: Candidate must contact the fellowships office at the beginning of the second semester of Junior year to begin application process.

National Science Foundation: Graduate Research Fellowships
Funds three years of research for graduate students in all branches of the sciences, including engineering, computer and information sciences, psychology, chemistry, geoscience, physics, life science, astronomy, interdisciplinary research, and the social sciences.

  • Deadline: September, varies by discipline.

Point Foundation
Provides funding for both graduate and undergraduate LGBT students in any field of study.

  • Deadline: February 11, 2012.

Rhodes
Two to three years of graduate level study at Oxford in England. Must begin application spring semester.

  • Deadline: Candidate must contact the fellowships office at the beginning of the second semester of Junior year to begin application process.

Soros
For new Americans pursuing a doctoral degree in any field of study.

  • Deadline: November 1, 2011.

Switzer
For graduate students in applied environmental studies attending a university in New England or California.

  • Deadline: January 15, 2012.

Truman
Provides aid for seniors and graduate students committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service. Apply for the Truman in the Fall of Junior year.

  • Deadline: December 9, 2011.

Udall Scholarship
Funding for undergrads who study the environment.

  • Deadline: February 3, 2012.

Whitiker International Fellows and Scholars Program
The Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program sends emerging leaders in U.S. biomedical engineering (or bioengineering) to undertake a self-designed project that will enhance their own careers within the field. In the first four years of the Whitaker Program, 100 grants have been awarded to Fellows and Scholars to conduct projects in over 20 countries worldwide.

  • Deadline: January 23, 2012.

Woodrow Wilson's Indiana Fellowship
Woodrow Wilson’s Indiana Fellowship offers rigorous teaching preparation, extensive clinical experience, and ongoing mentoring, as well as a $30,000 stipend. These new Woodrow Wilson Fellows will be STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) scholars and experts—outstanding college juniors and seniors majoring in these fields, recent college graduates, and second-career professionals—interested in teaching in high-need secondary schools.

  • Deadline: January 12, 2012.
