Erin Kiley graduated in 2008 with a double major in Mathematics and Russian. She has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year to conduct research through the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Modeling at Penza State University in Penza, Russia. Those involved in this interdisciplinary research program, jointly initiated by Penza State University, Worcester Polytechnic Insitute in Worcester, MA, and Karlstad University, Karlstad, Sweden, are studying the inverse techniques for reconstructing dialectic Properties of nanocomposites. In addition to her mathematics research, Erin will continue her study of Russian language and culture.
Kiley is a member of the University Honors Program and a Presidential Scholar. While a junior at UNH, Ms. Kiley was offered a research position through a National Science Foundation (NSF) summer project. She studied mathematical modeling at Worcester Polytechnic Institute with Dr. Vadim Yakolev. The following year, she studied mathematics in Budapest, Hungary, and in Moscow, Russia. Upon her return, she traveled to North Carolina State University to participate in another two-month NSF research project, then boarded a plan for Finland where she spent a month doing graduate-level study in applied mathematics and scientific computing.
Following her year abroad through the US Fulbright Program, Ms. Kiley plans to enroll in a PhD program in applied mathematics.
