The U.S. Student Fulbright Program has announced that Brett Gamache, UNH G‘05, has been selected as the recipient of a scholarship to spend the 2007-2008 academic year studying and painting in Italy.
Mr. Gamache received his MFA in May 2005 from the University of New Hampshire, where he teaches introductory drawing and painting. He is a resident of Londonderry, NH.
Gamache’s paintings are the result of both direct observation and imaginative invention. Inspired by the work of early Renaissance painters Andrea Mantegna and Piero della Francesca, he will spend the year in Italy studying the works of these painters, while also producing plein-air landscapes and compositions from imagination. Gamache will establish his studio in the town of Ascoli Piceno and conduct independent study at the University of Ascoli Piceno under faculty member, Salvatore Santuccio.
In 2003 and 2004 he was awarded a UNH Graduate Student Summer Grant for summer study at the UNH-in-Italy program in Ascoli Piceno, and in 2005 he received a Graduate Teaching Assistantship for the Italy summer program in 2005.
Mr. Gamache received the Cleveland Institute of Art Portfolio Scholarship (1997); the Savannah College or Art Scholarship (1997), the Massachusetts College of Arts 2D Painting Award (1999,2000, 2001) and the Art Students League NY Merit Scholaship (2001,2002).
His work has been exhibited at “An Artistic Discovery” painting competition in Washington, DC, the Art Students League Gallery in New York, NY, the Arches Printmaking Show at Boston University, the UNH Art Gallery and Mill Pond Center for the Arts, in Durham, NH, the Alexander Lakes Gallery in Dover, NH; and the Three Graces Gallery and Family Tree Gallery in Portsmouth, NH.
