It is with great pride and pleasure that I share with you this year’s Faculty Excellence award winners. These awards recognize their achievement in teaching, engagement, and research.
While the University has always celebrated their work, this year faculty members tell us in their own words what inspires them about their chosen profession. In these short videos we see them in their classrooms and out in the field. We catch a glimpse of their world and begin to understand how they work, firsthand.
You’ll meet a scientist who teaches zoology and neurobiology, committed to having his students experience the hands-on challenges of research; listen to a sociologist who can weave theory with practical applications, effortlessly; and observe how a talented clinician communicates and models effective therapies for her students. There is much more.
I was captivated by these stories and, whether you’re a seasoned academic or a prospective student, I hope you will be, too. What becomes clear is how intertwined are the fundamental activities of teaching, engagement, and research. These faculty members bring a world of knowledge and experience to their students, whom they care deeply about, and to the questions that they investigate with them.
