Paul College of Business and Economics
Project Description
Currently under construction on Garrison Avenue is a new 115,000 square foot academic building that will house the Paul College of Business and Economics. Slated for occupancy in January 2013, this new facility will boast 950 new instructional seats in 16 technology rich classrooms. In addition there will be 25 high-tech group study rooms, a two-story “Great Hall” for informal gathering and special events, and a courtyard for outdoor events and activities. Pedestrian access through the site will remain intact with the creation of a generous open air portal that will lead from Garrison Avenue to a new landscaped courtyard and onto downtown Durham. Service and vehicular access from Pettee Brook Lane is deftly worked into the plan for deliveries, maintenance, and a very limited amount of parking.
This project is the focus of a large fund raising effort that started with the largest ever, single gift commitment in the University’s history from Peter T. Paul (’67). This building will be a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold facility, maintaining the University’s commitment to sustainable programs and facilities.
