Metrics

The area with the lowest per capita electricicy consumption will be the winner.

Electricity usage only will be measured for all the apartment complexes and residence halls in an area (Areas 1, 2, 3 and 4) to determine per capita electricity usage for each area. Thus areas will be competing as a team against other areas, not as individual buildings. This metric was chosen in an effort to make the Challenge as equitable as possible in that each area is comprised of a conglomeration of older and newer dorms that have different energy use patterns and have similar numbers of residences and overall electric consumption.

Commuter Students

Students living off-campus can participate in the Challenge too! Download the Commuter Challenge Checklist and complete as many items as you can. Return the list to Commuter Student Services (MUB 122) between October 30 and November 4 for a chance to win prizes!

Outreach

Energy Captains are appointed for each dorm to increase visibility of the event, help students understand what steps they can take to decrease their energy usage, and to work with Hall Directors to incorporate the Challenge into weekly meetings and dorm-wide events.

Prizes

BPA-free 18 oz. water bottle made from 100% recycled materials to each student in the winning area.

The Energy Waste Watch Challege trophy will be presented to the hall from the winning area with the largest percent reduction in par capita electricity use compaired to that hall's usage in October 2008.
