E-Mail Message From Amy (Ambuehl) Lieb

Amy (Ambuehl) Lieb, BS 1999

I attended UNH between 1995 and 1999 and graduated cum laude with a Bachelors of Science in Hydrology in May
1999.  Having spent my formative years in New Jersey and New Hampshire, I decided to head west and see the country
after graduation.  Since then, I have lived and worked all over the West, specifically for the Federal government
within the USDA Forest Service and the USDOI Bureau of Reclamation.  My work has primarily focused on surface water hydrology and has varied from water supply planning to meteorology, geomorphology, and stream restoration.  I am currently the North Zone Hydrologist for the Gifford Pinchot National Forest at Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument in Washington State, where I am responsible for NEPA planning, watershed restoration, and public collaboration.

If any students would like to know more about me or hydrology in the "real world," feel free to contact me at
alieb@fs.fed.us.

I also wanted to mention what I found valuable about the Hydrology program at UNH:
Unlike hydrology most students, I pursued hydrology as an undergraduate.  Doing so has proven to make me extremely unique, in that I believe that I gained equivalent experience and knowledge to the graduate students at an earlier stage in my career, and I have easily found employment in both the private and public sector since leaving UNH.  Although I went on to complete a Masters in Public Administration in 2006, I am more highly regarded for my
comprehensive Hydrology background that UNH provided.  When I completed my Bachelors, the hydrology program allowed undergarduate students to create their own destiny by allowing students to choose the classes that interest them, within reason.  I hope this practice is still in place, as hydrology is a very diverse field!

I wish good luck to all UNH Earth Science Students and promise to keep in touch!
