Quaker Run

Reference Streams

Reference stream geomorphic analogs were selected from nearby streams. Although 25 nearby streams were studied, due to the mining history of the region, almost all streams were disturbed and impaired. Stable streams outside of the mining district were not considered to be suitable analogs since the hydrology of the mining region displays much less runoff than the unmined watersheds.

The upstream and downstream Quaker Run were unstable F or G channels. There was an abandoned section of upstream Quaker Run with suitable C-channel characteristics. In addition, just west of Shamokin, PA, Carbon Run had two sections of channel that provided B- and C-channel dimension, patter, and profile reference data.
