March 26, 2010: UNH English Department Speakers Series presents Prof. Paul Lewis, Boston College

Return to News & Events

Join us for a fresh look at one of America's most well-known authors, Edgar Allan Poe. Prof. Paul Lewis of Boston College will visit the UNH Durham Campus to present a paper titled "What's So Funny About Edgar Allan Poe?" on Friday, March 26th.

Easy to typecast as the Master of the Macabre, Poe had a deep sense of the wide-ranging functions of humor. Working in a number of genres, he moved from jokes to ridicule and from fearful laughter to outright terror. Because it includes a fight between the Poe and Incredible Hulk action figures with the fate of humankind hanging in the balance, this talk is rated R!

The University of New Hampshire English Department Speakers Series sponsors Professors of English and other disciplines from various academic institutions for a visit to UNH during which they present a current paper and discuss their research. This event is free and open to the public. Please contact the UNH English Department for more information about this event: (603) 862-1313.
