Declare a Major in the English Department!
If you are interested in declaring one of the majors offered by the English Department, you may do so during our fall declaration week, September 19-23, 2011. During this week you may formally declare one of the following majors: English, English Literature, English Teaching, or English/Journalism. Students interested in declaring Linguistics should contact the program director, Prof. Rochelle Lieber, for information about major requirements.
To declare one of the English majors we offer please make sure you meet the following requirements:
1) You must have Sophomore standing or higher to declare a major in the English Department
2) If you are declaring English, English Literature, or English Teaching you must either be enrolled in ENGL 419 'Introduction to Critical Analysis' this semester or you should have already completed this course with a grade of 'C' or better
3) If you are declaring English/Journalism you must have completed ENGL 501 'Introduction to Creative Nonfiction' with a grade of 'B' or better
If you meet these requirements please visit the main English office in Hamilton Smith Hall, room 113 to fill out a Change of Program form. Please bring your advising file with you when you are ready to fill out the Change of Program form. Students who formally declare a major between 9/19/11-9/23/11 must attend a mandatory orientation on Tuesday, September 27th, 12:40-2:00p.m. in Ham Smith 214.
