Marilyn Johnson is the author of two non-fiction books, the recently published This Book is Overdue! How Librarians and Cybrarians Can Save Us All and The Dead Beat: Lost Souls, Lucky Stiffs, and the Perverse Pleasures of Obituaries. Both books are based on extensive reportage and are written with creativity and humor. The Dead Beat, a critical and commercial success, was chosen as a Borders' Original Voice and was a finalist for the Barnes & Noble Discover Award.
Johnson, a former editor and writer for Life, Esquire, and Outside magazines, studied poetry at the University of New Hampshire, where she earned an MA in English.
