Master of Science for Teachers 
The Master of Science for Teachers is a degree designed specifically for practicing English teachers who want to deepen their knowledge of literature and develop their own skills in reading and writing. This program is based on the belief that pedagogy emerges out of firsthand experience in the processes of reading and writing.

Students must complete 32 graduate credits, normally including at least one course in both the teaching of writing and in the study of language. All courses will be within the English department, but candidates may, with prior approval from the Graduate Director, take up to 8 credits in other departments provided such courses are directly related to their needs as teachers of English. The department also offers summer courses in the New Hampshire Summer Institutes, which can be taken to fulfill course requirements for the MST degree. Summer Studies in Composition and Literature, a five week summer program offers a selection of four-credit courses in British and American literature, composition theory and research as well as writing workshops in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. There is no foreign language requirement or GRE test required for the MST degree. Those in the MST program can take up to 10 graduate credits each summer in the various summer institutes offered by the English Department. These involve topics such as: Promise of the Portfolio Classroom, Writing and Technology, Boys, Literacy, and Popular Culture.
