In Memoriam
Donald Graves
1930-2010
Donald Graves, a former faculty member in Education, passed away on September 28, 2010. He was internationally known for his work in children's writing, and he had an unparalleled impact on classroom instruction. In a series of articles in the late 1970s and early 1980s--and in his book Writing: Teachers and Children at Work--he developed the writing process or writing workshop method, that became widely used in this country, and in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Later, working with his colleague Jane Hansen, he explored ways in which reading and writing instruction can be combined.
