What appears below is the title page of Samuel
Richardson’s novel, Pamela, reproduced from volume 1 of the sixth
corrected edition of 1742, “In Four Volumes.” Richardson published the
sixth edition of volumes 1 and 2 together with what were, technically, the
third edition of volumes 3 and 4. All four of theses volumes were in the
larger, octavo format and were “Embellish’d with Copper Plates, Design’d
and Engrav’d by Mr. Hayman, and Mr. Gravelot,” as the title pages
announce. |
What appears below is the title page that appeared in
volume 3 of the 1742 edition of Samuel Richardson’s novel, Pamela. As this
title page makes explicit, the octavo volumes 3 and 4 were in their third
edition, although Richardson published them together with volumes 1 and 2
in their sixth corrected edition with the understanding that they
constituted a single work “In Four Volumes.” |
