- Initiating research and working relationships related to American foreign policy and international organizations.
- Studying the United States’ relationship with the United Nations, with ongoing scholarly interests in humanitarian intervention and peacekeeping, conflict resolution, political violence, and terrorism.
- Exploring the politicization of identity as a foundation for conflict in countries such as Rwanda, Sir Lanka, Iraq, Kosovo, and Chechnya.
- Co-editing a volume on state and church relations and contributing a chapter on the turbulent role of the Catholic Church in the emergent political system of East Timor.
