Our Friend, our Mentor,
|
From our Chair, Todd DeMitchell...
I know we have lost a friend, a colleague, and a mentor. Grant's contribution to others is well known through his work with Childrens Hospital, his receipt of the university's service award, his stewardship of the IRB, his fellowship in the college, and his contribution to our department by serving as our chair and program coordinator. It is hard to think about departmental governance and not envisioning Grant assuming a leadership role.
Grant played an important part in my life. He supported me when I waivered, he advised me when I needed it, and he stood by me when it was important to feel a strong shoulder next to me. I counted on Grant to tell me the truth, to stand for the right thing without regard for what was easy, and to find the path over, around, or through obstacles. Grant was a safe harbor for my fears and concerns, and a compass for where I wanted to go. I miss my friend. My life is the better because Grant was part of it. My goals are closer because Grant steered me toward them. And my life is richer because he enlivened it.
The Cioffi family will hold a Memorial Service for Grant Cioffi on April 2, 2010, at 4:00PM in the Huddleston Hall Ballroom.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UNH "in memory of Grant Cioffi" for scholarships for students focused on service learning in the Reading Program in the Department of Education at UNH. Please contact the University of New Hampshire Foundation, Inc. (Elliot Alumni Center, 603 862-2570).
Children's literature may be donated to local schools in memory of Grant Cioffi. Books may be brought to the Memorial Service or dropped off at the Department of Education, Morrill Hall room 203.

Grant will walk long within our memories.
