Seacoast Reads volunteer and student
Seacoast Reads is a local implementation of the America Reads Challenge.

Our Mission is

♦ to help children increase proficiency in reading and writing

♦ to develop self-confidence and

♦ to encourage a love of reading.

Seacoast Reads places UNH volunteers into local elementary schools and after-school programs to help 2nd and 3rd grade students improve their reading and writing skills.

Each volunteer travels with a group to their site twice per week throughout the semester and works one-on-one with their "reading buddy," reading books aloud together, practicing writing, and playing word games.

Volunteers have the option to enroll in EDUC 506-Service Learning Experiences in Literacy, a one-credit course to take in conjunction with their volunteer experience.

Tutors must attend one 90 minute training session in Morrill Hall room 4, or room 2. Please e-mail or stop by our office to find out when and where the training sessions will be held.
